An Easy Homemade Lip Balm Recipe

I love having lip balm around. It's great to have some around when you need a quick swipe of moisturizer on your lips.

This easy lip balm recipe is simple and doesn't require a ton of ingredients.

The basic homemade lip balm recipe is simple and allows for some experimenting with scents and flavors.

Here is the basic recipe for lip balm.

Ingredients:

1 1/2 teaspoons Coconut Oil

1 1/2 teaspoons Almond Oil

1/4 teaspoon beeswax

A few (2-4) small containers to store the lip balm in

Once you have chosen your base for your homemade lip balm, you should think about flavors or scents. One of my favorites is adding almond extract flavoring to the lip balm. I use between 5-10 drops of flavoring for a mild flavor in the lip balm.

Put all of the ingredients into a container that is heat-proof. Place the container in a pan of water. Boil the water.

Once the beeswax has been melted, remove the container from the pan of water.

While the mixture is still hot and has not begun to harden, add whatever flavoring or scented oils you have decided for your lip balm recipe.

Stir the mixture to make sure that the lip balm and the flavoring are mixed well.

While the mixture is still warm, pour the liquid lip balm into the small containers you have chosen to store your lip balm in.

Allow the lip balm mixture to cool and set within the containers.

Don't forget to use a label to add a date that the lip balm was made and the ingredients used. Store in a cool place and use within 6 months.

When you want to use the homemade lip balm, rub a small amount onto your lips when needed.

If you want lip balm that produces a coloring to your lips, add some food coloring to the lip balm. If I want tinted lip balm, I add 3-4 drops of food coloring to the warm mixture before it sets. Remember to stir before you allow the mixture to harden.
